    Coach Ian's Gator Weekly

    Hello Parents and Swimmers,

Over the past week, I have seen clear progress in both consistency and the overall quality of our practices. Last week was Gator Drill Week—a time where athletes intentionally slowed things down to focus on technique, body awareness, and stroke efficiency. This is when we step away from “swim school” habits and begin thinking more critically about how we move through the water and how to apply strategy to each stroke.

As we move out of Drill Week and into Week 6 of training, our focus shifts back to increasing intensity—building power, managing distance, and developing grit. While we continue to build endurance and capacity, it is critical that athletes maintain stroke integrity under fatigue. This requires focus, discipline, and the ability to respond to coaching in real time.

With only three weeks until Time Trials and four weeks until our first swim meet, expectations will continue to rise. We will be increasing yardage and intensity, always with an emphasis on effective technique. I have already seen athletes improve their ability to handle longer distances and faster intervals, and I encourage all Gators to embrace the challenge and push their limits.

Success in the water comes from what happens outside the water as well. That means making choices that support performance—getting proper sleep, eating well, staying focused at practice, and being willing to sacrifice short-term comfort for long-term growth.

“The pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow.”

As our meet against Treeview approaches, preparation becomes even more important. Athletes should begin practicing the way they want to race—bringing focus, intensity, and purpose to every set. Our goal is not just to compete, but to build confident, capable athletes who represent the Gators with pride and unity.

We are excited to watch these athletes grow, challenge themselves, and continue working toward faster times, team records, and a stronger team identity. Small improvements, done consistently, will set new standards.

    Caterers will apply their skills.
    Gators will maintain their intensity.
    Gators will push through fatigue.
Gators will compete as one team.

    Go Gators,
    Coach Ian
