    Coach Ian's Gator Weekly

    Hello Parents and Swimmers,

As we enter Week 9 of training, the Warm Springs Gators coaching staff will continue implementing race technique, race strategy, and confidence-building as we move further into the competitive portion of our season. We are excited about the momentum our athletes are building and the progress we continue to see both individually and as a team.

Supporting athlete development requires diligence in three key areas: goal setting, maintaining high standards, and consistent practice attendance. As the season progresses, these habits become increasingly important in helping athletes continue improving both physically and mentally.

Last week, practices integrated sprint work, turns, underwaters, and race-focused training while overall intensity and focus continued to increase. Over the next two weeks, athletes will be challenged further as we begin emphasizing more race-oriented swim sets designed to improve race execution, conditioning, and competitive confidence.

The Warm Springs Gators coaching staff would like to congratulate all athletes on their improvements from Time Trials to last weekend’s meet against Treeview Swim Club. The progress many swimmers demonstrated in just one week is a very positive step in the right direction and reflects the hard work being put into practice each day.

Our meet against the Treeview Dolphins was the first official competition of the season, and our athletes competed with focus, determination, and strong team spirit. We put forth our best available lineup and came up just short in the final team score. While swimming is often viewed as an individual sport, success in summer league swimming requires teamwork, commitment, and preparation from the entire roster.

    We train together.

    We race together.

    We improve together.

And ultimately, we can win together.

It is imperative that athletes continue attending practice consistently, setting goals, and participating in swim meets whenever available. Team success depends not only on talent, but also on reliability, preparation, and supporting fellow teammates throughout the season.

Congratulations to all athletes who dropped time and earned a sticker from the sticker box. Improvement is earned through consistency, focus, and effort, and it is exciting to see so many swimmers beginning to see those results translate into competition.

As we continue progressing through the season, athletes should remain focused during practice and continue developing strong listening habits, positive attitudes, and coachability. The athletes who stay mentally engaged and consistently apply feedback during practice will continue building a stronger understanding of technique, pacing, and race strategy.

We would also like athletes and families to begin preparing for the transition to morning practices, which will begin on Wednesday, June 3. Adjusting sleep schedules, nutrition, and morning routines ahead of time will help athletes make a smoother transition and continue performing at a high level in the water.

Additionally, athletes should plan to arrive on time and prepared for Team Picture Day on Thursday, May 21 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. We look forward to seeing all of our swimmers represented.

    Upcoming Reminders:

    • Thursday, May 21 — Team Picture Day (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM)

    • Monday, May 25 — No Practice (Memorial Day)

    • Saturday, May 30 — Home Meet vs. Chabot College

    • Wednesday, June 3 — First Day of Morning Practice

The coaching staff is proud of the effort, resilience, and positive energy our athletes continue bringing to practice each day. The season is still young, and we are excited to continue helping our swimmers grow both individually and together as one team.

“Success isn’t owned. It’s leased, and rent is due every day.” — J. J. Watt

    Gators will continue improving.

    Gators will support their teammates.

    Gators will remain coachable.

    Gators will compete together.

    Go Gators!
