Coach Ian's Gator Weekly
Hello Parents and Swimmers,
As we enter Week 12 of training, the Gators coaching staff would like to congratulate our athletes on completing their first week of morning practices, as well as those who continue to attend afternoon practices. We are proud to watch our athletes grow, improve, and excel each and every week.
We would like to remind our athletes that we have only five weeks remaining before our Championship Finals. As we move closer to the end of the season, our practices will continue to challenge our limitations, build resilience, and push us toward achieving our goals.
The Gators coaching staff appreciates the parents who support their athletes by providing additional opportunities to be in the water. Extra pool time can be extremely beneficial to an athlete’s development. When helping your children, we ask that you avoid teaching swim technique. This is not because we do not value your involvement, but because we want to prevent confusion and ensure consistency in the instruction our athletes receive. Technical coaching should remain the responsibility of the coaching staff. Athletes are encouraged to practice the skills they have learned during practice, and if they have questions, they can always ask their coaches before their additional swim sessions.
“Too many voices create confusion. Consistent instruction creates confidence.”
“A swimmer who trusts the process can focus on the work.”
Our coaching staff wants nothing but the best for our athletes. We would love to see our swimmers break team records this year, but our focus extends beyond times and results.
While at practice, we must understand that our time in the water is limited, and sometimes achieving every goal in a short period is not possible. However, the intent we bring with us as we walk through the gates and onto the pool deck is paramount. Choosing to support your teammates while pushing your physical and mental limits is essential to the preparation required to stand beside our competitors at Championships and feel confident, capable, and, most importantly, prepared.
Winning is great, but we must first start by winning at practice. That means changing negative habits, implementing better strategies, accepting challenges, and choosing to have fun in the process. Consistency, both physically and mentally, is essential. Athletes must understand that practice is a place to challenge their limitations.
“Confidence is earned through preparation, not wished into existence.”
Your coaches are here to guide you, provide you with the tools you need, and help you see what is possible. However, it is up to you to be coachable. It is up to you to expand your toolbox, embrace opportunities for growth, and turn possibilities into reality.
“The athlete who improves the most is often the one willing to be uncomfortable the longest.”
We are already creating a stronger team by raising expectations, holding athletes accountable, and, most importantly, supporting one another throughout our journey.
Attending three practices each week allows an athlete to participate in meets. Attending five practices increases the likelihood of improvement. Attending five practices, eating properly, and getting a good night’s sleep further increase the chances of achieving personal goals.
When athletes combine those habits with maintaining a goal book, tracking progress, completing race evaluations, sharing those evaluations with their coaches, staying positive, motivating teammates, and embracing challenges, they create an environment that accelerates their potential—not only in swimming, but in every area of life.
As we continue our drive to push our athletes beyond their perceived limitations, our coaching staff remains committed to providing the skills, knowledge, and support necessary for every swimmer to reach their goals. It is the small, consistent improvements made every day that shape our team culture and ultimately lead to success.
“Championships are not built in a single race. They are built in hundreds of ordinary practices.”
Upcoming Events: •
June 13 – Highlands at Warm Springs
• June 20 – Warm Springs at Southgate
• June 27 – Warm Springs at Newark
• July 11 – EBSL Championships
Final Expectations Moving Forward:
• Set a goal before every practice.
• Arrive prepared to work toward that goal.
• Step onto the pool deck with the mindset that the only limits are the ones you place on yourself.
• Understand that it is okay to try and fall short.
Growth comes from effort, learning, and persistence.
Every challenge you face today prepares you for tomorrow. When you return the next day more knowledgeable, more prepared, and more determined, you are already succeeding. Trust that your coaches and your families are there to guide and support you throughout the process.
Gators will continue improving.
Gators will support their teammates.
Gators will remain coachable.
Gators will compete together.
“Great teams are not created by talent alone. They are created by shared standards.”
Those athletes who consistently demonstrate these qualities will greatly increase their chances of earning a place on the final roster that will represent the Warm Springs Gators at Championships.
Thank you, Gators Family.
The coaching staff truly appreciates your enthusiasm, encouragement, and continued support of our athletes. With your support, our swimmers have an outstanding foundation to lean on as they continue to pursue their goals.
Go Gators!
