    Coach Ian's Gator Weekly

Gator Family, It’s hard to believe we have entered the final week of our swim season. The Gator coaching staff could not be more proud of everything this team has accomplished. Throughout the summer, we have watched friendships grow, confidence build, and countless memories be created through practices, meets, team events, and cheering each other on. Those memories will last long after this season comes to an end.

What has impressed us most isn’t just the fast swims—it has been the culture we have built together. We have watched athletes encourage teammates after difficult races, celebrate one another’s successes, and never stop working to improve. That is what being a Gator is all about.

This season has never been about simply winning races. Winning is showing up to practice ready to work. Winning is helping a teammate who needs encouragement. Winning is giving your best effort, even when things don’t go your way. Winning is learning from setbacks, embracing challenges, and continuing to grow. Every athlete who has committed themselves to becoming a little better each day is already a champion in our eyes.

One of my favorite sayings throughout my coaching career has always been, “Excellence isn’t given—it’s earned.” Those aren’t just words. They represent everything we’ve worked toward this season. Excellence isn’t found in a medal or on the podium. It’s earned every morning you chose to come to practice, every lap you completed when you were tired, every drill you focused on, every teammate you encouraged, every lesson you learned after a difficult race, and every time you chose to be better than you were the day before.

As a coaching staff, we have challenged you to set goals, trust the process, and raise the standard of what this team can become. Those standards don’t end when the season does—they become the foundation for the future of the Warm Springs Gators. Every practice, every relay, every personal best, and every act of sportsmanship helps build the legacy of this team.

As we prepare for Championships, remember to focus on the things you can control.

Get plenty of sleep each night so your body has time to recover. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the week. Fuel your body with nutritious foods and avoid excess candy, soda, and sugary snacks that can affect your energy. Take time to visualize your races. See yourself executing great starts, powerful underwater dolphin kicks, efficient turns, and strong finishes. Arrive prepared with extra towels, healthy snacks, water, sunscreen, and, most importantly, a positive attitude.

Remember, swimming is as much a mental sport as it is a physical one. Believe in yourself. Trust your training. Stay focused on your goals, and have confidence in the work you’ve put in all season. When you step behind the blocks, know that you are ready.

No matter what the scoreboard says, remember that every race is an opportunity to represent yourself, your teammates, your family, and the Gator tradition with pride. Race fearlessly. Cheer louder than ever. Celebrate every improvement. Lift one another up, because the greatest teams are remembered not only for what they accomplished, but for how they accomplished it.

The Gator coaching staff is incredibly grateful to coach such an amazing group of athletes and families. We are inspired by your dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace every challenge. Together, we have continued raising the standard, strengthening our team, and building a culture founded on hard work, accountability, sportsmanship, respect, and excellence.

The future of the Warm Springs Gators is incredibly bright because of each and every one of you.

Now it’s time to finish what we started.

Race with confidence. Compete with heart. Trust your preparation. Support your teammates. Leave the pool knowing you gave everything you had.

    Because excellence isn’t given…

    It’s earned.

We can’t wait to watch you shine this Championship weekend.

    With gratitude,

    Coach Ian Huskins
