Coach Ian's Gator Weekly
Warm Springs Gators – A Time to Reflect 🐊 As we wrap up another season, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on everything our team accomplished.
First and foremost, I think we did an amazing job at Championships. Over the course of two days, our team had one of the lowest numbers of disqualifications, we had multiple athletes drop time in their events, and we had athletes earn medals and achieve personal accomplishments they should be incredibly proud of. But what stood out to me just as much as the swimming was the energy and team spirit. The pool was filled with an incredible amount of enthusiasm. Our athletes were cheering for one another, supporting one another, and creating the kind of environment that makes being part of a team special.
Then we had our team banquet. Everyone looked absolutely amazing, and the positivity, encouragement, and team support throughout the evening were phenomenal. Congratulations to everyone who received an award. Those awards represent accomplishments that you should be proud of, and I hope they motivate you to continue setting new goals for yourself. For those who didn’t receive an award this year, remember that your swimming journey doesn’t end with one season or one championship. Your progress is your own. The work we accomplished this season is only the beginning. Next season, we will continue to improve, continue to challenge ourselves, and continue to set higher expectations for what we can accomplish as a team.
One thing I especially loved about this season was our weekly goal of testing ourselves in different events. The athletes who consistently showed up, put in the work, and remained engaged in practice continued to see their times improve. That isn’t an accident. Consistency matters. Showing up matters. Putting in the effort when nobody is keeping score matters. Those small decisions eventually show up on the scoreboard.
As we move into our break, I want everyone to take some time to enjoy the rest of the summer. Spend time with your family and friends, have fun, and recharge. But I also want you to remember that being a swimmer doesn’t mean you stop being a swimmer just because we’re between seasons.
🏊 Stay Ready To help everyone stay active and ready for the upcoming season, I’ll be sending out a few simple dryland exercises that swimmers can do at home. You don’t need a gym or fancy equipment.
A few exercises you can work on include: Bodyweight Squats 3 × 10–15
Alternating Lunges 3 × 8–10 each leg
Glute Bridges 3 × 12–15
Push-Ups 3 × 5–15,
depending on ability Plank Holds 3 × 20–45 seconds
Streamline Holds 3 × 20–30 seconds
Superman Holds 3 × 15–30 seconds
Focus on good technique and controlled movement rather than trying to do as many repetitions as possible. You can also spend a few minutes each day working on mobility—especially your shoulders, hips, ankles, and back. This isn’t about trying to replace swimming practice. It’s simply about keeping your body moving, maintaining some strength and mobility, and coming back ready to work.
🐊 Thank You, Gators Finally, I want to say how much of an honor it has been to be part of the Warm Springs Gators. Watching these athletes grow, compete, encourage one another, and become better swimmers and teammates has been incredibly rewarding.
Thank you to all of the athletes for your hard work. Thank you to the parents for your support, transportation, encouragement, and commitment to the team. And thank you to everyone who helped make this season what it was. I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished together. Enjoy your summer, be proud of what you accomplished, and come back ready to set some new goals. The work we did this season was just the beginning. Go Gators!
